Please return the Student Information Sheet sent home recently with your child. We will be using a new, more effective communication tool (School Messenger) in the near future and require updated and accurate contact information from our families. The current e-blast/e-newsletter system will be retired at that time. The new system will offer families a more accessible and more flexible way to receive important information from Vanier and the SMCDSB.

Student Insurance
Our schools continue to run a fantastic range of excellent co-curricular programs for our students. While every effort is made to complete all due diligence to ensure the care and safety of each student, all athletic programs have the possibility of students getting injured. In many instances many families do not have the appropriate insurance coverage to support them through the injuries. The SMCDSB Insurance coverage does not insure these children for these injuries.
Families wishing to purchase Student Accident Insurance may do so using one of the following methods.

1)   Complete the application form within the brochure (students were given in the first week), and mail it directly to Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada (insuremykids®) along with the appropriate payment or

2)   Apply online at www.insuremykids.com with payment by credit card.  This insurance can be purchased at any time throughout the school year (the premium stays the same and the end date remains the same).

EXAMS AND OTHER SUMMATIVE EVALUATIONS
We strive to ensure students meet with academic success and want to make sure you are aware of very important timelines within the semester.  Please note the dates for final exams.  Full attendance during exams is essential to your child's success.  The week prior to exams many classes have additional in-class exam components, in which attendance is also mandatory.  The last 3 weeks of most courses is designated to completing Course Culminating Tasks (January and June).  The summative mark in each course, consisting of the CCT assignment and final exams constitute 30% of your child's mark in each course.  It is imperative that your child be in full attendance during these busy times.

In most cases CCT dates in the last 3 weeks of the course will not be rescheduled, and a mark of zero should a student be absent will be assigned.  Please ensure that you are contacting both the teacher and the Main Office prior to absences during this time.

Final exams this year are January 23-29 and June 18-24 and will not be rescheduled.  Dates for both additional in-class exam components (January 16-22, June 11-17); and for Gr. 9 students this includes the Math EQAO (January 15-17, June 10-12) and final exams for students taking Gr. 10 Civics/Careers (November 4-5 or April 14-15) will not be rescheduled.  Please do not book vacations, plan to attend tournaments, have job commitments, etc. during this time.  A mark of zero will be assigned if your child does not attend on the date of their scheduled exam or additional in-class exam component.

Should a major medical illness arise please contact the Main Office immediately.  A Doctor's note on the day of absence indicating the medical emergency and the impossibility to complete the exam on the scheduled date is required, or a mark of zero will be assigned.

Your child's success is our priority, and we want to ensure your child has every opportunity to be successful not only throughout the semester, but also during the essential summative evaluations in the final weeks of each semester.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
